It sounds like Pakistan is solidifying its anti-American stance even further by arming some of it’s border outposts with MANPADS in order to deter American incursions into their country. After the recent mysterious attack on two Pakistani border crossings, which killed dozens of Pakistani troops, tensions in the region are boiling. In response to the supposed unprovoked attack, Pakistan is demanding that the US vacate it’s key operating location within Pakistani borders at Shamsi Air Base in Baluchistan Province. This has the potential to greatly affect our strategically succesful drone war against militants and key terrorist figures operating within the untamed federal lands of western Pakistan. The next escalation in tensions could see a Pakistani policy of destroying any drone that enters it’s airspace. This would effectively end America’s key tool in degrading insurgent and terrorist capability throughout the region. If Pakistan makes this call we will surely hear about it first, then we will have to see if they follow through with such a threat. It is very possible that the final death rattle of US-Pakistani relations may just come from the sound of a shattered Predator drone impacting the ground after being shot down by patrolling PAF fighters.
