Listen I love the guy’s enthusiasm for space, and I think this is a GREAT idea, but in reality we would be very lucky to be back on the moon by 2020 even for a visit. None-the-less, investing in space pays off in so many ways I see it as a no-brainier for the US tax payer, apparently Newt does too and that’s a good thing. America needs to start thinking BIG again. We are so concentrated on figuring out how to simply sustain the status-quo that we have stopped looking at what an American future could look like with the right focus and attitude. Those who see this as just another campaign empty promise or pandering to Floridians who are very out of work since the Obama Administration killed the Constellation Program and the Shuttle don’t know Newt’s historical affinity towards space. He has been pushing for greater emphasis on space exploration for decades, now he has a grand platform to think, and to some people’s dismay, talk big. Newt has always been a man of a LOT of BIG ideas, for better or for worse, but when it comes to space I have the strangest feeling that he could actually make some of them a reality. And hey almost anything is better than what we have now going on over at NASA, which is seen widely as a dying agency to anyone who does not get a paycheck because of it.
