    Great video!

This bird seems to have the nose of the F-22, the canards of the MiG 1.42 and the PAK-FA engines. In other words, it’s a truly Chinese indigenous design: the plane is not a simple copy of some other Western or Russian jet… although I bet they “borrowed” quite a few ideas and designs.

    A couple of questions:

    1) How stealthy are those canards?

    2) Is it just me or it’s striking that the PLAAF would choose to show off the J-20 during the flight test phase? They’re usually more secretive than that (you can even see some tall buildings around, I bet quite a lot of people attended the show. This was no Area 51 thing). After all, this plane’s maiden fight was just a year ago; they still have a lot of bugs to fix.

    3) Even if these design is inferior to the F-22, I have to wonder how many would the Chinese be able to produce. They could compensate quality with numbers.

Add the intakes of a F-35!!!!!! Wild huh?

1.) Assume during “stealth mode” they don’t move. Stealth aircraft manage their aspects to known emitters in such a way already.
2.) Totally weird this whole thing. They want the world to see this. From day one I said this thing was real and that it most likely has been developed at a secret base to a point in advance. If not the J-20 than an earlier proof of concept that would have predated it. This aircraft appears to be something akin to be somewhere between technology demonstrator and LRIP. Its all about what systems are inside. Without the F-22′s sensor fusion, AESA, ESM suite, and LPI comms/data-links it would not be anywhere near as much of a performer etc.
3.) Oh it will be inferior, but even a 75% solution would be damning in any decent numbers. People who think China can build thousands of these jets are dreaming. I would say a force of 300 will be a hard goal to achieve. These are NOT cheap to produce, even in China.
