JUST A REALLY COOL PICTURE: THE FLEET IS FULL AT NAVAL BASE NORFOLK VIRGINIA!

My buddy who served aboard the USS Enterprise as a JAG officer posted this on Facebook, quite the sight!

“It’s Christmas in Norfolk! And everyone’s home this year! At pier-side are USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN-69), USS GEORGE H.W. BUSH (CVN-77), USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65), USS BATAAN (LHD-5), USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN (CVN-72), USS WASP (LHD-1) and USS IWO JIMA (LHD-7). And that’s just the flattops! Not sure having seven carriers in one place at the same time is a good move, but it looks incredible.”

That photo should bring tears of pride and joy to your eyes. Every 4th-grader in the United States should be able to name our CVNs, should know what they are, and know what they mean…

What’s under the tarp on CVN 77?

    Tora Tora Tora!

  4. Scott Gist says:

    CVN-75 H.S.Truman is there too!

Ahh yes that is one hell of a lot of hardware right there guys. I really think the Navy should re-examine sticking a boat or two down at Mayport. This shot does show half of America’s power projection centerpiece inventory sitting within one small area. As for the tarp, man I have no clue. Last time I was in San Diego the whole island of one of the carriers there was wrapped and it had structures all over the deck. Could barely tell what it even was.

Man am I going to miss the elegant lines of the Big E…

    WOW….Just…..WOW!

I count nine flattops. In addition the aforementioned: CVN-75 Truman and an unidentified LHD at pier seven. Impressive shot.
