I reported on the CLUB-K “death in a can” container missile system about a year ago when it was first unveiled to the world (please check that post out for context by clicking here) and the more I learn about it the scarier it becomes.
This weapon system is just a bad idea (because it is so good) on so many levels, although it probably is a good one when it comes to export revenue. In other words, I think this weapon system would be at the top of many “asymmetric” military’s wish lists, as well as well funded terror groups for that matter. The Russians are saying that the system will feature modern versions of the potent Kh-35 “Switchblade” anti-ship and surface to surface missile. The CLUB-K can be used in standard shipping container form on ships, docks, trains or even semi-trucks, thus making identification via satellite or other reconnaissance assets virtually impossible.
I have a feeling that this system will not be treated by Rosoboronexport, Russia’s sole arms export intermediary, like a usually well publicized export sale of a batch of new fighter jets or armored vehicles. Instead I would venture to guess that the sale of such a clandestine and controversial weapon system would be kept a secret as much as possible. Not a good thing for the possible target nations of this insidious “war in a box” missile system.
Yeah, pretty sure they are not marketing to pro-US folks as they are only “attacking” and blowing up strictly US gear in the promo videos!
Its a Decepticon!
